Kia Unveils New EV3 Electric SUV with 600km Range
This compact SUV is scheduled for a South Korean launch next month, with European markets following by late 2024.
South Korean Carmaker Kia has officially unveiled its all-new EV3 electric SUV, offering a compelling combination of size, range, and technology.
The new EV3 takes its place below the larger EV9 and EV6 models in Kia’s electric vehicle lineup. This compact SUV is scheduled for a South Korean launch next month, with European markets following by late 2024.
Built on the proven E-GMP platform shared with other Hyundai Group vehicles, the EV3 boasts two distinct versions: Standard and GT Line. It shares similar dimensions to their gasoline car- the Seltos,(4,300mm long, 1,850mm wide, 1,560mm high).
Inside, the EV3 embraces a minimalist approach with a focus on technology. A massive 30-inch display dominates the cabin, incorporating a dual 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and a separate 5-inch display for climate control.
The real star is the EV3’s impressive range. Kia offers two battery pack options: a standard 58.3kWh and a larger 81.4kWh battery. The larger battery has a range of up to 600 kilometres (373 miles) on a single charge – a significant advantage for long-distance journeys. Both battery options can be fast-charged from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes, making recharging convenient.
Both versions utilize the same electric motor, delivering 201 horsepower and 283 Nm of peak torque. This translates to a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph).
The EV3 offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging, allowing you to use the car’s battery to power external appliances. The one-pedal driving function with Kia’s i-Pedal version 3.0 enhances driving ease and efficiency.
The Kia EV3 rivals are likely to be the Hyundai IONIQ 5, BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. While Kia hasn’t confirmed an Indian launch yet, an assembly at the Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh in the future is a strong possibility.
