Gentari to Power AMG Ammonia’s Green Ambitions with 600 MW Clean Deal
Gentari to supply 650 MW carbon-free energy to power AMG Ammonia’s massive green hydrogen and ammonia project.
Gentari Renewables India Castor One Pvt. Ltd. announced on Monday that it signed a power purchase agreement with AM Green Ammonia India Pvt. Ltd. to supply 650 megawatts of carbon-free energy.
According to a press release, the subsidiary of Malaysian renewable energy major Gentari will provide about 2,400 megawatt-peak of renewable energy capacity, comprising solar and wind assets, to AM Ammonia’s upcoming green facilities.
The project will be powered by 350 MW / 2100 MWh of integrated energy storage to ensure a continuous and dispatchable power supply, a critical requirement for the energy-intensive production of green ammonia.
The release further stated that the venture will be Gentari’s largest greenfield renewable energy endeavor globally and one of the most ambitious energy initiatives in India’s growing clean energy sector.
The operations will span Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, leveraging India’s inter-state transmission system to ensure power reliability and efficiency.
A New Blueprint for Green Energy Supply
Unlike conventional renewable energy contracts, which typically focus on daily or monthly energy quotas, Gentari has committed to meeting hourly capacity utilization factors tailored to the operational needs of AMG Ammonia’s production facilities.
This approach aligns with the Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin framework, which defines eligibility criteria for clean hydrogen and ammonia production.
It signals a paradigm shift in how renewable energy is supplied to high-demand industrial processes, potentially serving as a blueprint for future global contracts in steel, cement, and chemical manufacturing sectors.
“This will be a one-of-its-kind project, integrating energy storage to supply firm and dispatchable green energy to AMG Ammonia’s facilities,” said Navjit Gill, country head for India at Gentari, in the statement.
“With our aligned vision and extensive expertise, we aim to drive rapid progress in expanding India’s renewable energy capacity and fostering sustainable growth in the green electron-to-molecule chain.”
Positioning India as a Global Green Ammonia Hub
The partnership advances AMG Ammonia’s ambition to establish one of the world’s largest green ammonia platforms, aiming to produce 5 million tons of green ammonia annually by 2030.
The production scale will be enough to produce roughly 1 million tons of green hydrogen per year — a critical milestone in India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The release stated that this output would account for 20 percent of India’s target for green hydrogen production and 10 percent of Europe’s import target for green hydrogen.
“Through this agreement, we are making significant progress toward our goal of establishing a 5 MTPA green ammonia platform,” said Mahesh Kolli, founder of the Greenko Group & AM Green.
“We look forward to deepening our partnership with Gentari and are confident that this agreement will be the first among many other agreements over the years. In Gentari, we have found a partner with a similar vision and immense capabilities.”
AMG Ammonia’s first green ammonia project in Kakinada recently reached a final investment decision, bolstering its position as a key player in the green ammonia sector.
The company’s expansion plans align with India’s broader strategy to become a major exporter of green energy to Europe and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development markets.
A Broader Vision for India’s Energy Transition
The Gentari-AMG Ammonia deal symbolizes India’s larger ambitions to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and become a leader in producing and exporting green hydrogen and ammonia.
By creating a steady and dispatchable power supply through renewables and energy storage, the partnership addresses one of the key hurdles in the sector: reliability.
For Gentari, the project represents a significant milestone in its strategy to provide comprehensive solutions along the clean energy value chain — from generating renewable “green electrons” to producing green molecules like hydrogen and ammonia.
As India races to meet its net-zero goals, large-scale projects like this highlight its potential to emerge as a global powerhouse in renewable energy and green hydrogen production.
