Aster Healthcare Aims to Cut 2000 Tonnes of Carbon Emissions in GCC and India
The company is focusing on reducing its carbon footprint by targeting a 2,000-ton cut in carbon emissions in the GCC and India and also aim to slash paper usage by two-thirds and plant 3,500 trees in these regions
Aster DM Healthcare, a major healthcare provider in the GCC and India, has unveiled its new plan to tackle environmental issues over the next three years. The company is focusing on reducing its carbon footprint by targeting a 2,000-ton cut in carbon emissions in the GCC and India. They also aim to slash paper usage by two-thirds and plant 3,500 trees in these regions. Additionally, Aster plans to build a large solar plant in Kasargod, covering 55 acres, to power seven hospitals in Kerala, India.
By 2025, Aster aims to decrease overall electricity consumption by 5% across the GCC and India, contributing to a more sustainable energy profile. The organization is also committed to a 5% reduction in water usage in these regions by the fiscal year 2025, emphasizing responsible water management practices. Initiatives such as solar-powered lights in Aster Hospitals and solar car charging stations are in the pipeline.
Aster’s Aid Program will expand disaster support to two more regions in the next fiscal, along with establishing five Tele-Med Centres. The Aster Volunteers Mobile Medical Services will see an increase from 32 to 41 units, expanding their coverage in diverse regions. Volunteer engagement targets an 18% increase in registered Aster Volunteers in the coming fiscal, with external partnerships playing a crucial role in achieving these objectives.
Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, highlighted Aster’s high ESG ranking among listed healthcare companies in India and expressed the company’s dedication to continuous improvement in ESG performance.
According to Moopen, Aster will remain committed to further elevating the ESG standards by targeting a low-carbon and sustainable future. “We envision setting new benchmarks for environmental stewardship and social impact. Our goal is not just to meet current standards but to continuously raise the bar for excellence in ESG performance,” he said.
Aster achieves significant reduction in water and electricity
According to its annual ESG report, which was released recently, Aster achieved a significant reduction of 6,824 tons of CO2 emissions through the integration of renewable energy sources. Water conservation efforts led to a 17% reduction in consumption, with 85,515 kiloliters of water saved through innovative practices. Aster’s commitment to responsible waste management resulted in the recycling of 423,806 kilograms of waste.
Aster’s corporate social initiatives, including the Aster Volunteers program, have positively impacted over 4 million lives through healthcare outreach to the underprivileged. The company’s involvement in activities such as planting 2,000+ saplings, aiding 10,000 beneficiaries through programs like Aid for Assam, and building 250 homes for Kerala Flood victims reflects its role as a catalyst for positive change.
